According to The Federal Trade Commission, counterfeit check scams are on the rise. Some fake checks look so real that bank tellers are unable to detect the counterfeit checks. The scammers use high quality printers and scanners to make the checks appear authentic. These counterfeit checks are often printed with the names and addresses of legitimate financial institutions, including real account and routing numbers.

These are just some examples of counterfeit check scams. If you receive a check based on one of the above mention guises, this is likely a situation in which the perpetrators are attempting to defraud you. VSP will never mail you a check and request that you wire a portion of the funds back.
