Rancho Cordova, Calif., July 9, 2008 –Today, VSP announced the purchase of Ultra Lens optical lab in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. adding to its other wholly-owned labs in Dallas, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; and Sacramento, Calif. 

“Adding Ultra Lens to our VSP lab network continues our commitment to providing the highest quality products and best service to our clients, doctors and members,” stated Don Oakley, VSP vice president of Ophthalmic Supply Chain and Services. “This acquisition provides VSP doctors with an even broader variety of advanced optical lab technologies and services from which to choose, ultimately benefiting the nearly one million VSP members in Florida and the 55 million members nationwide.”

Ultra Lens is a local family business founded in the 1975 by Bernard Singer and is currently operated by Danny Singer. The current management team will stay on to run the lab.
 
Ultra Lens produces its own high quality in-house anti-reflective coatings, and is an authorized distributor of Hoya, Shamir, Varilux and Zeiss products.

VSP’s purchase of Ultra Lens follows the acquisition of Legends 4.0, an optical lab in Dallas, Texas and joint venture agreements with Perfect Optics in Vista, Calif. and Tri-City Optical in Clearwater, Fla.
