VSP Takes Successful Get Focused Program to Major League Baseball

Sacramento CA, June 6, 2005 - In an effort to further highlight the importance of eyecare for children and adults, VSP will take its Get Focused campaign to the big leagues, hosting events with the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs this summer.

The Braves will hold VSP Get Focused Day at Turner Field on July 29th, while the Chicago Cubs have set aside September 18th at Wrigley Field for the event.

"We want families to understand that regular eye exams can maximize a child's potential in school and in athletics," said Don Yee, VSP Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development. "We also want fans to understand that regular eye exams are important for adults, too. They are critical in managing eye-related conditions like glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy."

At the Braves and Cubs events, VSP volunteer doctors will team with Major League Baseball players and coaches to conduct a morning sports clinic. Doctors will help children from local YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs understand the connection between healthy eyes and sports performance. The children will receive a Sight for Students® gift certificate to visit a local VSP eye doctor for a comprehensive eye exam and glasses, if needed. In addition, fans at the game that day will be exposed to various messages about the importance of regular eyecare.

Get Focused is VSP's national campaign to educate Americans on the importance of regular eyecare. Since 2002, VSP has coordinated events with 14 Minor League Baseball teams across the country. VSP also hosts Get Focused events in educational settings, including children's museums and produces a Get Focused curriculum for schoolteachers designed to teach children about the human vision system.
